I do that a lot. Like, I play Nuzlockes but not with the standard rules. Wild battles do not kill my Pokemon and only trainer battles do. I also still put my battle mode into Shift. These are basically changes that just please me because otherwise I'd not be able to enjoy the game too much I also don't really abide to the "catch the first Pokemon in a route" rule. I basically just catch all the Pokemon available in a route and then choose the 1 among them that I have never used before.
This usually equals to joke or bad Pokemon, but since I get to choose, when I absolutely don't want to use something I'd just choose something else. I do rotations a lot too.
