Marine Corps. Step 1 Lift the hood of the Dodge Dakota and disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative lead post of the battery with the 10 mm wrench. Step 2 Connect the Dodge stereo wiring to a wiring harness adapter. Step 3 Insert the faceplate adapter from the installation kit into the vacant stereo mounting dock of the Dakota.

Step 4 Connect the wiring harness adapter leads to the back of the aftermarket stereo. Step 5 Slide the aftermarket stereo into the stereo mounting dock of the Dodge Dakota. Step 6 Replace the plastic dash panel that covers the center console and left dashboard controls. But I am trying to find out how to replace my stock stereo with my JVC Headunit on my Dakota Sport, but i can't figure out how to get the old on out for one, and i can't find the kit to make the stock hole the right size, i have seen a picture on one but no were to buy one If anyone has some advise or experiance please e-mail or post.

Thanx Anthony. To do that install you have to take the dash off around the stereo. Hope this helps it's alittle hard to explain but extremely easy to do. Y2K DAK 3. The black trim that is around your dashboard is only held on by plastic clips. Just gently pull on the trim from the top. Eventually, you'll pop it off. You'll need to adjust your steering column as well to manipulate the entire trim off of the dashboard.

Once you pull that off, you'll notice that two 13mm can't remember maybe 10mm bolts that hold your factory stereo on. Loosen these and out she comes. You'll be surprised how easy it is to get into your radio. Scary easy. Makes life even easier for would be thieves. But figure no mater what they will get the stereo if they want it and the harder it is for them to get it out the more damage they will do to the surrounding items.

So figure easyto fix things if some one pulles it out forcfully Do I just remove them and follow the same principles as above to remove the radio?

The stereos looked interchangable between the two, so I think your '91 would also have the two screws once you get the plastic off. My old '94 had a star pattern in the screws. Joe E. The plastic should come off easily. I did it in my a while back I am trying to remember exactly hoe it goes.
