The digital audio signal just gets interleaved into the same TMDS signal as the video, which is why it has to be combined at the source or through an active converter box. Heatsink completely blocks neighboring slot. I don't have any low-profile systems and just needed to replace another fanless gs card with one that has an audio header, and i would have preferred a full-height card with a full-height single-slot heatsink, like the enegs i replaced. I don't really need the pci-e 1x slot it blocks, but I'm slightly annoyed that i no longer have the option.
That big heatsink is clipped on at only two points, and is slightly wobbly. I don't think it will fall off, but I wonder how evenly it rests on the relatively tiny top of the GPU. Overall Review: I had been under the impression that i could link the spdif-in on this card to the spdif-out of my M-Audio Audiophile card, and that didn't work at all. But it does work with the motherboard header specified for just this task. My guess is that the motherboard header isn't true spdif different voltage levels or something and that the video card depends on it being that way.
Pros: Installed on a MSI board, worked perfect right out of the box, before any drivers were installed. Runs cool for a fanless, thanks to the 45 square feet of heatsink joke. Cons: heat sink makes it difficult, if not impossible, to use the neighboring pci slot on some MB's. Overall Review: I would think MSI should know it's own products enough not to allow the heat sink design on their product to cover up the channel 2 SATA port on their own board.
Pros: When these boards arrive with the oscillator intact - they perform admirably. Cons: Of the 10 boards I have ordered, 4 have arrived with the oscillator on the back of the board either off completely - or hanging by one leg.
Overall Review: The QC on these boards is obviously non-existent. The only shortcoming of the board is the osciallator chip problem.
