We like to complicate things! Seriously, Marcool, thanks for the batch file. My only experience with them was to create multiple instances of my Desktop Sidebar. Will try it. Will gladly test. I personally feel that this is a bit too much and decided to delete those folders. I really can't think of a situation why I wanted to uninstall a Microsoft update that I installed a while ago.
Note that leftovers remain in the Windows Registry if you delete the files manually. To remove those as well, do the following before you delete the folders:. There is a second option which is by far the better option in most cases. You can run the Disk Cleanup Tool to remove old patches from your system to free up space.
Click on the ok button to start the process. As you can see, Windows may be able to free lots of storage on the system. In fact, these folders are also created when Automatic Updates install, NOT only if you install a patch manually. Can you save them to a disk before deleting them. Then if one day you need any of them, you'll have them. I suppose you could save them on a CD. You'll probably want to create the same path on the CD except the drive letter for each one so you'll be able to recreate the correct path on the C: drive later on.

And if something goes wrong immediately after deletion, can a system restore point resurrect these folders? There is a program to safely remove these folders which also adjust the corresponding registry entry as well. Best tip on which to delete would be any folders that is older than a few weeks, in case a recent update needs rolling back.
Remember: This is a one-way operation. If you remove the Hotfix backup files and the Registry entries, it cannot be undone, unless you back up these items manually.
