Shared folders no good by rig » Sat Jan 17, pm Also been banging my head up against the wall with shared folders. Installed guest additions as admin, in Vista compatibility mode, and set up the shared folders in VirtualBox but can't see them on the Windows guest. Re-installed guest additions, restarted, etc. Re: Where is the folder by javapop » Sat Jan 17, pm Thank you!!! Fortunately a bit of searching yielded this article , which describes the problem nicely. It turns out that there is a magic word you have to know, and that is the share name for the host OS:. Once you know this, mapping shared folders is straightforward. With that, it's easy to share folders between the client and host OS using VirtualBox. The reason I didn't simply use a standard network share to my host OS' machine name is that both guest and host are in a VPN, and the VPN is over the Internet and in a different country, so when I went that route my files were apparently traveling from host to guest by way of the remote VPN network, rather than locally.
In the XP environment I can use net use to map a shared folder and it works perfectly. However when I do exactly the same under Windows 7 I get the result described previously. Do you have any clues as to what is going wrong and any clarification of your method of getting it to work. Thanks again. You need to go to settings and remove all vdi's but use the KEEP option, and then add the new vdi's from your local store.
